It’s a common sight at Neat to see us in detailed discussions with flower suppliers directly on the sales floor, asking about quality growing, ethical and social responsibility processes that speak to how deeply we care about cannabis.

Neat has a detailed screening checklist that our team personally reviews one-on-one with suppliers when sourcing product. Ethics and craft are not a terms we use loosely. Our job is to ask many question to potential partners such as:

“How long do you hang the plant?”

“Ladybugs or spiders to control pests for the whitest burn?”

“What causes do you engage in to make a real difference in the industry and community?”

“When are you going to list terpenes on your packaging?”

If a product doesn’t thrill us before it even gets to the store, it’s not good enough to bring to you.

Neat to Know “Her”:

You don’t have to spend a great deal to get a great experience, but you do need to know a few things about “her” before you dive in.  We say “her” because all cannabis flower comes from the female plant only. Flower is an organic beauty with her own personality and individual shape.

Just as no two roses are identical, no two cannabis plants are identical either. Cannabis selection can be an adventure, but there are ways to determine what separates the boys from the girls, so to speak.

Just like growing a fine grape can result in the best vintage wines, the better the growing and harvesting conditions for cannabis – the better the bud will be.

What to look for:

Quality buds should be dense, and burn into pure-white ash in the end. Soil quality and growing conditions can affect the density and quality of the end-product. Neat hunts for organic, the most natural and live processes, instead of pesticide usage and manufacturing manipulation. Closely monitored pruning processes that direct the plant’s energy to top growth can make the difference between sticky and sweet vs crumbly and loose.

Some buds are naturally dryer than others based on the plant strain they are harvested from, so don’t get too hung up on moist vs dry because there’s ways to easily moisten dried cannabis. The starting point is density. If you shake and a flower whole-bud container and it sounds like a pepper shaker rather than something solid rolling around, or feel a bud package containing loose, flaky nugs, it’s best to avoid it.
